NEW ACTION REPOR

Subject: RE: Attention: ALL K.I.S.A. Members

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your concerns at the Salonie Creek range.  I wanted to let you
know that Al Affinito is the CRO of the Monashka Bay range only.  We are in
the process of looking for a CRO for the Salonie Creek range. If you know of
anyone interested please contact me.  The ATV issues at the range have been
discussed at our meetings and we are always open to new suggestions on how
to handle these situations
Sincerely,
Lori Affinito

Dear Al:
I appreciate your efforts to keep the Salonie Range clean and safe. I wish I
knew some way to keep the vandals out.  I suspect the increased ATV use in
the area may be contributing to the problems.

  Greetings all,
Over the past week, there have been several instances where people
have been forcing open the gate at the Monashka outdoor range. I'm going to
assume Non-members are doing this. Until I can get the gate properly
anchored (after the thaw) I have placed a chain on the gate. This chain is
pretty stout and can be a pain to lock due to the stiffness..so bear with
me. Until the repairs can be made, please take the time to chain/re-lock the
gate securely.
The reason this area is locked is to prevent a re-occurrence of
vandalism we have experienced in the past. I want to ensure when you use the
range, it is well maintained and safe. Speaking of safe..
This week, there were some shooters that were using glass bottles
for targets. The bottles were placed in the snow and shot to pieces and left
there. Not only am I upset about a shooter not taking out what they brought
in to shoot, I am upset about the glass bottles. The last thing I want is
for one of our member to slip on the ice while walking out to set up their
targets and then falling onto the glass shards that are sticking straight
up. Here's the scoop, if you bring aluminum cans and similar items to shoot
at.no foul, however, items made of glass and other miscellaneous garbage (TV
sets, propane tanks, furniture, appliances, etc) is unacceptable and may
result in your key privileges being revoked.
In the near future, I'll be placing garbage barrels on the range for
your convenience, until then, please take your trash with you.
If you notice anyone abusing the range, please contact me directly
at the phone number below
On another note, we have noticed the trend of people acquiring
unauthorized keys to access our gates. The officers of K.I.S.A. will be
conducting spot checks to verify legitimate key holders against our
membership roster. Be prepared to verify your identity when we ask to see
your key and identification. Having your membership card handy will expedite
this process. Shooters unable to identify themselves as authorized key
holders will have their key confiscated and retained by the board of
directors until they can prove otherwise. Once membership status has been
verified, the key will be returned.
  Indoor Range:
As many of you know, part of the ventilation system collapsed after
being weighed down with wet snow. This has prevented us from opening the
indoor range. Three pieces have been fabricated and must be installed first
to allow the final piece to be fitted. Last Saturday we removed the damaged
sections of the vent and removed some snow from the area (thanks John for
the help). This Saturday, I'll be back at the range at 10:30 to install the
new pieces. Anyone wishing to help out is more than welcome.
Once the indoor range is operational, we will resume our normal
schedule along with additional events such as Bowling Pin matches and
starting back up the infamous "Gallery Night" on Saturday evenings.
If you have any questions or comments, you can e-mail or call me
directly at 539-xxxx.
  Regards,
  Al Affinito

Hello Everyone,

I wanted to let you know that the Monashka Bay indoor range is temporarily open.

We put up three vent segments this past weekend and had to get the final measurement on the last piece.

Yesterday the CRO and I put up visqueen to close the gap so we can use the range

The final piece is now ready to put up and we will attempt to do that this next weekend.

Further details will be available then.

I drove down to the range today and noticed the gate was not secured properly with the chain,

so please lock it with the chain around the door and fence post to secure it. Thank you,Lori AffinitoSecretary

Salonie Creek Rifle Range Repair,

Maintenance and Improvement Plan

The following repairs need to be done to the rifle range.
  1. The potholes in the road need to be filled in, a roller needs to be run over
  2. the new fill, and the road needs to be graded.
  3. The drainage of the road needs to be evaluated and repaired.
  4. The concrete benches either need to be repaired (so they are not dangerous) or replaced.
  5. The walkway in the pits needs to be repaired and sections replaced.
  6. The roof over the pits should be replaced.
  7. It would be nice to get the target carriers working at the pistol range again.

The following maintenance needs to be performed annually

  1. All wood needs to be seal coated.
  2. Metal items that are rusting, or can rust, need to be painted or sprayed with
  3. a rust preventative.
  4. Moving parts of the target carriers need to be greased.
  5. The brush and grass needs to be cut.  Maybe commercially cut the brush
  6. every 2 to 3 years.
  7. Target boards need to be set up each spring and burned every fall.
  8. The trash needs to be picked up on an annual basis, or maybe twice a year.

The following improvements need to be done to the range

  1. A roof needs to be constructed over the 500-yard firing line.
  2. The gravel path that goes from the 500-yard line to almost the
  3. 400-yard line needs to be extended the length of the range.
  4. We need to purchase some plastic chairs to go with the benches.
  5. We can paint them pink and green and attach them to the benches with
  6. cables so people won’t steal them.  We will have to replace them as they are shot
  7. or broken but that is a cost of business.

The following does not need to be done

  1. Leave the berm at the 500-yard firing line alone.
  2. If you remove it we will all be lying down in a big puddle to shoot prone.
  3. If we grade it we will loose the “crust” and if we don’t compact it then we
  4. will be shooting from a mud puddle.  The Army designed the range –
  5. they know something about building rifle ranges.  It would have been easy
  6. for them to make the firing lines cement, look at all of the cement they poured
  7. We have more important things to do than extend the pistol range, making it work
  8. again for one.  We should spend our energy on the trailer, the road, and the
  9. outhouse before we work on lengthening the pistol range.  If they want to shoot
  10. more than 50 yards let them go to the rifle range.

Board knowledge - the Board should know before any changes are made to the

Salonie Creek Range, the Indoor range, and the Monaska Bay outdoor range.

This does not include picking up trash or cutting brush.

This does include moving berms, changing range direction, or other permanent items.
