2006 Highpower Rifle MatchesThe Kodiak Island Sportsmen Association is hosting a series of NRA approved HP Rifle Matches this summer. These matches will be held at the Salonie Creek Rifle Range. These matches are NRA approved matches. You do not have to be a member of the NRA to shoot in these matches. NRA HP Rifle rules will apply. We are shooting two classes of rifle: Ø Service Rifle – M1, M14 (M1A), AR15 Ø Any Rifle – Any center fire rifle with iron sights that holds at least 5 rounds in the magazine. Registration is at 8:00 with firing beginning at 8:30. Course of fire: Ø 10 shots standing slowfire at 200 yards (10 minutes) Ø 10 shots sitting rapidfire at 200 yards (60 seconds) Ø 10 shots prone rapidfire at 300 yards (70 seconds) Ø 20 shots prone slowfire at 500 yards (20 minutes) There will be 2 sighting shots before each course of fire. At the September match we will shoot 20 rounds for each course of fire. (for rapid fire we shoot the 10 round course twice) The cost to enter the match is $15.00. ///////////////////////////////////////////////// 4-H Shooting Program This summer the Kodiak 4-H club is teaching high-power rifle shooting to their members. They will fire the same course of fire as in the high-power rifle matches, but only one segment per night. To join 4-H a person must be between 9 and 19 and have not graduated from high school. 4-H has 6 AR-15 rifles that members can use or the participant may bring their own rifle. The classes will begin on Monday, June 18, and continue through August. The classes will begin at 7:00 each night. Sorry, but the Salonie Creek rifle Range will be closed while the classes are in session. The pistol range will remain open. To join 4-H costs $7.00 and to buy the course materials costs $5.00. There will be a fee of $5.00 per night, which covers targets and ammunition. .223 ammunition will be provided or a student may bring their own.
